Resident Evil 5 is a 2009 survival horror game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. It was released on March 11 in Japan,[11] March 13 in North America,[12] and on March 14 in Europe.[13] A port of the game with high-definition graphics for Wii U was released on June 27, 2013. It is the fifth installment in the Resident Evil series. The story follows Chris Redfield's mission to stop bioterrorist organization Neo Umbrella's plan to use virus strains to wipe out humanity. The game received mixed reviews for its wavering quality in gameplay between "excellent" and "horrible. Along the way, he is joined by former STARS Alpha team member Jill Valentine. They are given a jet pack in an attempt to keep them alive, but it loses power in the desert sands and they soon find themselves with limited means of navigation. The game starts in a desert location known as Deshima Island in the Arabian Sea where Chris Redfield arrives at an abandoned research facility, which was sealed off with walls made of stone slabs. When Chris reaches the facility, he discovers that its operator, Umbrella Corporation, had sealed the facility off to preserve the research on three T-virus strains including the Uroboros virus. The game then shifts to Jill Valentine who is on a cruise ship called Arcadia. A man named Albert Wesker attacks her and infects her with a virus. By controlling her actions, he forces her to join him in releasing viruses upon mankind via missiles after crossing the ceremonial "point of no return". Chris then travels through various locations such as Africa, an abandoned Chinese city surrounded by canals where infected crocodiles roam about; Kijuju Autonomous Zone No. 1 (Kazan Desert) where infected villagers are known as the "Glasnost" and hunt you; Africa, an underground facility where laser barriers can be activated to protect against the T-virus. The virus is contained in bio-organic weapons now called Tyrants. After traveling through Asia, Chris Redfield defeats Wesker's boss, Albert Wesker, who now calls himself simply "Wesker". After reaching Europe through Russia, he encounters Ada Wong who has become infected by the t-virus after being bitten by a t-virus infected Tyrant. She joins him after receiving a vaccine from a scientist named Dr. Isaacs. The game ends with Jill, Chris, and Ada fighting the t-Virus Tyrant in the secret underground facility beneath the Arcadia Oceanarium. Due to Ada's fate, she has disappeared after sacrificing her own life for the good of mankind. Resident Evil 5 received mixed reviews from critics. It received an aggregated score of 67% on GameRankings and 69/100 on Metacritic. GameSpot gave it a score of 6/10 saying "it can serve as a decent entry point to the series" but its "difficult to take this game extremely seriously when it's full of some incredibly stupid stuff."
